From the mailbox: marriage book suggestions?
Last week I received this message:
Hey Rachel, I really enjoy your blog and give away copies of your book (I found it for $1 at Mardel!) regularly to friends who are going through similar metamorphoses together. So thanks for your thoughts; they've been incredibly helpful and refreshing. Having grown up in a very similar church experience, I can't tell you how many times I say "I KNOW!!" when I read your stuff.
Hey, I got married a year ago and all the marriage books we have are strongly hierarchical. There's still lots of good stuff, but I'm wondering if you can suggest a resource/book with a more equal take on marriage, family, and home relations. I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks again,
Jacob
As delighted as I was to see that, once again, my book had been found in the discount bin, I couldn’t for the life of me think of a good recommendation. It has been years since Dan and I worked through a marriage book, and back when we first got married, we were using more traditional, hierarchal-based material...which, as Jacob noted, usually includes some good stuff too.
So I thought I’d turn the question over to you: What would you recommend for Jacob and his wife? Can you think of any Christian books that promote a more egalitarian relationship? Which books have helped you the most in your relationships?
Thanks!
