Today Donald Miller deleted the two blog posts he wrote about living better love stories and issued an apology to those who had been hurt by his words. This showed a lot of wisdom and humility on Don’s part, and I respect him for it.
I know that a lot of you were looking forward to a coordinated dialog between the two of us, but Don has requested that we postpone that conversation, and I’ve agreed. I also know that many of you feel the posts reflected more systemic problems regarding the Church’s characterization and view of women. I concur, and will continue to address those bigger issues with as much passion and grace as I can muster here on the blog and in the forthcoming book. This is an important conversation that far transcends a single blog post or series, and I believe we owe it to the future of the Church to engage in it both fiercely and respectfully.
In the meantime, I hope you will join me in welcoming Don’s words with the love and goodwill of fellow sojourners called into the much grander story of God’s redeeming work in the world.
I wish him nothing but grace and peace...and a very happy engagement!
